Purchasing new computer equipment

What is it?

SCC subscribes to the mentality that all equipment purchases are designed to last as long as possible and include all available warranties. Because of this equipment generally has high end specifications and designed to withstand constant use and be usable for many years after purchase. PCs

Computer Systems are separated into three categories: 

Basic computer (B)- These are for the systems that are used that do not process much such as Accutrack Systems, Kiosk Systems, or standing models that run certain functions.  These are also used for computers that do not need much processing power such as seldom used computers.  

Standard computer (S) - These are the computers that most people would order.  This is for your standard Office and Classroom use.  Almost all PCs will fall into the "Standard" configuration. 

Power computer (P) - These are for more high-end and media / processing computers.  There are only a handful of cases that really need these systems.   Example:  Adobe and AutoCad user.  

Laptop

Standard 3-year accidental complete care warranty is included in all of the below laptops:

Apple Devices

Apple devices are not used often and should only be used for those who are heavily relying on it for graphic design or other media editing. Some applications are also Apple-specific. Apple devices tend to be more expensive and IT has limited ability to perform hardware repairs. All purchases must be IT approved.

After purchase, IT will manage all Apple devices. i-Pads can be very customized with specific applications and restrictions.

Printers and Scanners

Printers and supplies are purchased by the departments. IT can support a large number of devices but must be notified of the device purchase if it is going to be set up as a networked printer for multiple people to print from. Below are the recommendations.

If you are not finding something you'd like, please create a ticket and someone will work with you to find an approved speaker.

Monitors

New monitors must be able to swivel left and right, slide up and down, rotate sideways, and be able to tilt back and forth, have USB 2.0 and/or 3.0 ports on the side and back of the monitor.

New minimum screen size will be 22 inches up to 26 inches anything smaller or larger will be by special request.

IT does have a large inventory of older monitors available to be set up if you would like a dual monitor setup.

Other Peripherals

A peripheral is a catchall term for any device that is connected to a computer but not part of the system. This includes mice, keyboards, microphones, webcams, and a number of other devices. 

Because this category is so large, please feel free to contact IT for assistance in requesting them. 

IT does have a large number of keyboards and mice on hand if you need a replacement. You are allowed to bring in your own mice and keyboard to use. Please let the service desk know if you need help setting those up.
