Adding MFA for Student Accounts

Step by Step Instructions

1. Browse to https://account.microsoft.com and choose Sign In
   
2. Enter your user@my.stchas.edu email address and click next
   
3. Enter your password and click next
   
4. If prompted, request a code by text
   
5. In the left column, choose Security Info
   
6. Receive a text code to confirm your identity
   
7. Enter the code you received
   
8. Choose whether to stay signed in or not
   
9. Click the "Add sign-in method" button
   
10. In the Add a sign-in method dialog, choose Microsoft Authenticator
    
11. On your phone, go to the App store and search for Microsoft Authenticator
    
12. Verify the publisher is Microsoft Corp. and install the app, then click next
    
13. Open the Authenticator app and click either the Plus sign or the QR Code icon to add a work/school account and click next in your browser
14. Scan the QR Code with your phone and click Next
    
15. On you phone, enter the number presented to you in the Let's try it out dialog
    
16. You have now added the Authenticator App, click done
    
17. Change your Sign-in method by clicking the Change link next to your phone number
    
18. Choose App based authentication - notification
    
19. Click Confirm
    
20. You can now safely delete your phone number if you'd like
    
21. Confirm deleting your phone number
    

*Microsoft will be removing Phone sign in at some point in the future since it is less secure than other methods
