PDF Encryption - Create encrypted PDF

Overview

You are required to create an encrypted PDF to send to another user.

Procedure

Create an encrypted PDF in Adobe Acrobat Pro

You will receive Digital ID files via email, save these in a common location for later use.

Open the PDF file you need to encrypt and choose the Tools menu or open the Tools sidebar, then click on Protect. In the new UI, choose All Tools>Protect a PDF

Choose Protect

Click on Advanced Options then choose Encrypt with Certificate under the tool bar. In the new UI, choose Encrypt with Certificate in the side bar

You will be prompted to confirm changing the security on the document, choose yes (you can check the do not show this message again)

Leave all of the settings at their defaults and click Next

To choose recipients for this document, click Browse and navigate to the location you saved the Digital ID files that were emailed to you (choose only the users that should access this file)

After you've chosen all recipients, click on the Permissions box

Check the box for "Restrict Printing ..." and then set the permissions on this file. If this will be sent to a visually impaired user, leave the "Enable text access for screen reader devices" checked, otherwise, un-check it and click OK

Click Next then click Finish

You will be notified that these settings won't be applied until you save this file, click OK (you can check Do not show this message again)

Go to Menu(File)>Save As and save the new file, append the word Encrypted to the file name to avoid confusion.
You can now send this encrypted PDF to the chosen users and they will be the only people that can read it.
